Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (GI)

What is it?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi classes are undertaken in a traditional gi uniform. This style of grappling is grip heavy as both you and your partner can grab one another’s clothing. The benefits of these grips make for many exciting techniques and submissions that are not possible in the other forms of grappling.

Class Structure/ What To Expect

The class coach will typically cover a series of techniques that progresses in each class across the course of a week (eg. mount attacks). 50% of class time is spent drilling the relevant techniques, and 50% participating in situation & live sparring.

The Gi classes are suitable for all abilities.

Requirements

We recommend that for sparring, a mouth guard is worn. Regular participants are expected to wear a GI with accompanying belt. For trial class participants, a GI will be provided.
